Be an Effective Ball Handler with 4 Essential Basketball Ball Handling Drills

In order to see huge improvements in your handles, you will need to practice effective drills. These 4 types of basketball ball handling drills will explode your handles, check it out:

  1. Stationary Drills- Stationary drills are performed standing still with the ball. This will get you used to dribbling the ball accurately in one place & allow you to get the feel of controlling the ball with your fingertips.
  2. Movement Drills- This drill will teach you to dribble the ball accurately while walking or running up the court. They will focus on putting the two movements together smoothly without double dribbling or bouncing the ball off your feet.
  3. Seated Drills- Dribbling a basketball while seated in a chair will teach you to have great control over the ball. If you dribble too close to the chair, the ball will bounce off the chair & you lose control of your dribble, while dribble too far away from the chair, you'll lose that fingertip control of the ball & not have the precision you will experience with a sharp focused dribble. This drill of drills will really help you "put the ball on a string" & have great control on the court. You should practice this not only with both your left & right hand while seated, but also you can even try it with two balls at the same time.
  4. Two Ball Drills- Dribbling a ball in each hand will help you develop the ambidexterity needed to perform crossovers & drive to the hoop from either hand. We are almost all born with a dominant left or right hand. Practice & repetition with the weak hand can help bring it up to speed. A player with a strong drive to one side will soon be forced to his weak hand by defenders. The goal here is to be strong with your dribble with both hands. When you can dribble equally with both hands, crossovers, between the leg & behind the back dribbling become a breeze. You'll be able to shake defenders & create your own shots with your dribble.
