Top 3 MUST Drills For Basketball Success

I want to share with you what I consider to be the top 3 drills for basketball. Drills must be attached to a basketball fundamental. The fundamentals of basketball are like the foundations to a house and if you are going to be a top-notch player or have a winning season then you must have the fundamentals down.

You should also have an element of fun (in my opinion). If drills are too rigid for too long then you start to lose passion, excitement and mental participation. This is especially true when working with youth. Combining these two will give you a winning combination.

Here are my top 3 that can easily include fun and the fundamental aspects.

1. Fast Break Drill - If you do it right you can develop many fundamental skills in one drill. This drill will include dribbling, conditioning, passing, and shooting. Not only that but it also emphasizes to your team the importance of scoring quickly and efficiently.

2. Moving & Shooting Drill - This one is my favorite. nothing frustrates me more then offensive players that stand still. A good offense and a good player moves constantly on offense. One of the simplest ways to do this drill is to set up two folding chairs about ten feet apart. Set a basketball in one and then run around the empty chair and back to the other chair. Grab the ball on your way by and set and shoot. Then, get your own rebound and repeat the process on the other chair. This is one of the best drills for basketball.

3. Quickness & Agility Drill - This drill is what separates the men from the boys. This drill will also be the most difficult one to make fun. I have several examples on my blog, but the important thing to remember is to add some element of challenge. In other words, tie it to time or competition against another team member. You will get the biggest payoff when you put attention on this drill.

There you have it. I believe these are the top 3 drills for basketball. Truth is, you can take all the drills for basketball and place them into 7 major categories. I call them the Deadly Seven Drills for Basketball.
